Exiting the elevator, Matt entered the cafe above Fred's he sighed. His life was a wreak, and he didn't know what to do to turn it around. He used to have an amazing lifestyle and nothing could go wrong. But all good things must come to an end right? He just guessed that it was his time to have hard times, and that he had to go through it like any other human. Everyone had their own problems, but Matt never had before. Maybe he was just spoiled, or maybe he was just lucky. In any case, he was having trouble with his life, and he just wanted to escape.
Amelia had always been there for him before, but now she seemed distant. They were growing apart, which was something that Matt hated to admit. He really did love her, he wasn't lying when he said it. Maybe it was just "young-love", and not something that could be taken seriously yet. Maybe he should just live his life without her in it for a while, so he could figure things out. Maybe was the one word he had been using a lot lately. Perhaps he was just getting paranoid. College was only a year away and he had a future to get ready for. He didn't need all this added pressure.
He walked over to one of the tables in the corner right next to a window. It was actually more like a booth, because on one side there were two chairs and on the other was a booth. The booth connected to the window, which had about a foot of empty space in between it and the booth. He slid into the side with the booth and let his back hit the wall as he let out another sigh. A waitress came by and he ordered a water before closing his eyes.

Kat walked gracefully out of the elevator, smiling to herself. After a full morning of shopping, a quick afternoon lunch sounded marvelous. She was still wearing the silver bracelet with onyx and sapphire that she'd bought that morning at Tiffany's, and was now wearing the Loved Destroyed jeans, Dodo+Angelika tank, and Lutz&Patmos sweater that she'd just picked out at Barney's a few hours previous.
She sighed happily. It was so nice being rich. She could hardly imagine what it would be like if she had to buy at bargain stores like some poor high school students. She kept thinking that while she headed for her usual table, a small table with three chairs by the window. In the very middle of the restaurant.
She sat down in one of the chairs by the window, and scanned the cafe. Mostly the usuals, editors-in-chief of famous magazines, a few wealthy businessmen, and a few others taking a short break from shopping, like herself. Her smile fell when she spotted, a few tables away from her, Matt Barnes, who was a year ahead of her at school. He looked so depressed, almost as if his entire world had crumpled.
Kat couldn't tell if it was just a bad day, or something worse. She didn't know him well enough to be able to dissect his emotions as easily as she could with her friends. She slowly stood from her table, abandoning the spotlight table momentarily, and headed over to his table. She sat down in one of the two chair across from him, and waiting until he looked up. "Hey, you okay?"

Hey, you okay? A voice startled Matt out of his reverie. He opened his eyes and looked up and gave a small smile, recognizing the person in front of him. He wasn't really friends with this person so-to-speak, but at least he knew her name. "Katherina, hi" he said, his elbow resting on the table, then his head resting on his hand. "Yeah, I'm alright. Just got a lot on my plate, that's all" he said, closing his eyes again. His head had started to hurt now, and he realized he needed that water fast. As if on cue, the waitress came back with the water and asked him if he would like anything to eat. "I'll have a cold turkey sandwich and a muffin" he said, then looked at Katherina. "Anything for you?" he asked.
Katherina was a nice girl, or at least that's what he had heard. Well, he hadn't heard anything about her really, so that meant that she hadn't done anything bad enough to be called out for. Besides, she didn't look like a trouble maker. Just a rich girl that was using her parents wealth for her advantage. He had to admit it was selfish, but then again he did the same thing. As long as she wasn't using it to hurt people he didn't have a problem with her. "So what brings you up here?" he asked.

Just got a lot on my plate, that's all. "Well, if it lightens the load at all, you can call me Kat. Only my parent's business partners call me Katherina." She said, trying to lighten the mood, but there was still a seriousness in her eyes. She didn't hate the name, but she didn't like it much either. It was just too long, too proper, it didn't have enough elbow room for fun. And Kat would die without a life of fun. She could still sense that something more was wrong for Matt, though she wasn't exactly sure how to ask about it. She continued to smile slightly while he ordered, but was still trying to figure out what could be going wrong for him.
Anything for you? His question caught her slightly off guard, though not enough for her to actually show any surprise. She turned her head slightly and looked at the waitress, smiling lightly. "Your chicken salad, please. And a water."
She turned back to Matt and saw him in his own thoughts, so she turned her head to look out the window, not wanting to disturb him. The sky was growing grayer, promising rain within the next half an hour. The people down below seemed to notice this, and were starting to walk even quicker, hoping to avoid the rain and make it to their destination before getting wet.
So what brings you up here? She turned to face Matt again, answering his question with what seemed to be her most usual response these days. "Just finished up some shopping. It seemed like a good day to do it. Now I'm not so sure."
She motioned to the window, where, as if on queue, it started raining. She didn't particularly mind the rain, in fact, she loved it, but some days it was more welcome than others. Today seemed to be one of the others. Suddenly, she felt slightly bad for the people who had been hurrying so quickly, hoping to not get caught in it. No such luck.
